Plant Info
Echinops, commonly known as Globe Thistle, is a hardy perennial prized for its unique, perfectly round steel blue flower heads that bloom from mid to late summer. It forms sturdy, upright clumps of deeply divided, silvery green foliage that add bold texture to the garden. The blooms are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, while the long lasting flowers also make excellent fresh and dried cut flowers. Globe Thistle thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerates heat and drought once established, and performs well in borders, cottage gardens, and naturalized plantings. Its distinctive seed heads remain attractive into fall, providing additional interest and food for seed eating birds.
